  • Try it this way, Craig. If The Beatles recording an album on 1/2" tape, which was transcribed to a vinyl LP and a cassette tape, an MP3 on Minidisc, a CD and stored in a computer memory...Why, oh, why aren't they all the same music? That's the sticking point.

  • The State maintains the original copy and prints out a certified to be true computerized form for public requests. Either is perfectly acceptable in the eyes of the law for its intended use. And yes, they look different because they are different forms.

  • Did you have to show it to the entire world? Or, maybe only just to the official whose duty it was to confirm your birth as stated? President Obama satisfied the appropriate official. Nothing else is required.

  • Dawn, it is considered rude and offensive in Islamic cultures to touch another person, hence the bow. This is changing with many muslims who are absorbing western mores, but the Powers That Be actually IN Islamic countries are much more conservative when observed by their religious leaders.

  • Marinewiffey, are you saying your husband has the right to ignore his vow to you and take another lover? An oath is an oath until freely returned by the recipient. There are no "take backs" if you later discover you don't like the deal.

  • The military takes an oath to serve the law, giving up some of the rights of other citizens. This is basic, 10th grade Civics.

  • The military gets to vote, you know. So, I assume, he voted for another candidate...and his candidate lost. Now he's put himself in position for bad things to happen all over his body, possibly a position where his superior officers can't just let it go, when it didn't have to happen that way.

  • Hmmm, Dawn...that's a bit of a reach, from not producing documents on demand to jumping off a bridge, but I suppose the connection could be that, under American law, nobody has the right to require either one of those actions. Was that what you had in mind?
